Irene Waite

Irene was born and grew up in Nairobi and has had a long career of over 20 years within the United Nations, Nairobi with UNEP and UNON, and here in London with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). She has held the position of Human Resources Officer and currently serves as an Officer within the Conference Division at IMO. She is also been involved in the activities championing racial equity and equality and is also a gender focal point at IMO. Irene has a passion for mentoring young adults who are transitioning from their studies into employment and well as life coaching. She also serves on the Executive Committees of two community groups of Kenyans living in the UK as Secretary and Treasurer respectively.


Irene has been a passionate member of the Kenya Society for over 10 years and is privileged to serve as the current Deputy Chair of our prestigious Society and lends her skills to positively contribute to the engagement of the Society with young Kenyan adults living or studying in the UK, through the Vijana Wetu Mentoring Programme and the Kenya Society’s Education Partnerships, as well as promoting Kenya Society at events to bring together likeminded Kenyans and friends of Kenya.
